The Arts & Crafts movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century inspires me to incorporate natural materials and subjects in my work. Simple lines and exposed joinery are hallmarks of the Arts & Crafts movement and I am deeply influenced by the works of Charles Rohlfs, William Morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, E.A. Taylor, Harvey Ellis, the brothers Greene and the Stickley dynasty. The furniture made during this period can seem heavy and overly rectilinear. My own interpretation is softer with more flowing lines that reflect my studies of the Art Nouveau period which was happening during these same years. Although influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement I rarely make reproductions of specific pieces. I choose to interpret the design characteristics of the movement in my own way and design my furniture accordingly.
